Buying sash windows on a budget

Where price is critical, then many will be tempted by casement windows, mock or dummy sash because casement windows are far cheaper than box sash windows in wood or PVCu.

As with bulk timber producers, volume sash manufacturers can churn out 5,000 PVCu sash windows per week. Choice however will be limited, often standard sizes are made up with add ons or packers, profiles are welded diagonally across the corners, astragal bars are inside the sealed units, and “clock springs” used to hold the weight of sashes.

Trade prices range from £199-300, whilst in the USA double hung Vinyl sash windows are just $50/60 each!

Imported wooden sash windows are available for £450/600 each but again they will be standard construction, nothing very detailed.
